Recently I purchased over 30 of the most popular types of New Balance shoes so I could compare them on many things, including weight. Here’s what you need to know regarding New Balance weight:
- Out of the 30+ styles I weighed, I found the average New Balance weight for a size 12 men’s shoe to be 0.895 pounds (14.32 ounces) per shoe.
- The most lightweight New Balance shoes that I tried were the New Balance FuelCell Rebel v2 shoes which weighed 0.54 pounds (8.64 oz) per shoe for a size 12. This is what the New Balance FuelCell Rebel v2 shoes look like (paid affiliate link takes you to NewBalance.com).
- The New Balance Nergize, which is a women’s athletic shoe, was also very lightweight. It weighs 0.34 pounds (5.44 ounces) for a size 7 women’s shoe. This is what the New Balance Nergize women’s shoes look like (paid affiliate link takes you to Amazon.com).
- In my opinion, the most comfortable type of New Balance shoes that I tried were the 1080v12 shoes. They provide that “squishy” comfort under the foot. Click here to view the New Balance 1080v12 shoes, which are available for both men and women (paid affiliate link takes you to NewBalance.com).
- Not surprisingly, the New Balance running shoes weigh less than other types of New Balance shoes (with a few exceptions). Some casual lifestyle shoes (574, 515, 720, 237, 327, 997) are, in part, inspired by retro running shoes, and therefore have a lightweight design. New Balance chunky shoes are the heaviest on average, as expected.

In this article let’s take a closer look at how these New Balance shoe weights compare. I will also link to more information for each of the shoes that I tried.

New Balance Weight Conclusion
After trying 30+ styles of New Balance shoes, I found the average weight of New Balance shoes to be 0.895 pounds (14.32 ounces) per shoe for a size 12 men’s shoe. The New Balance Rebel v2 was the most lightweight.
As you would expect, New Balance running shoes, as a whole, were more lightweight than other options. The New Balance leather walking shoes were heavier, and the casual lifestyle shoes varied.
Many of the casual lifestyle shoes (574, 515, 720, 237, 327, 997) are, in part, inspired by retro running shoes, and therefore have a lightweight design. But, as expected, the leather casual shoes weighed more than average.
