Recently I purchased over 30 types of New Balance shoes, including the New Balance Fresh Foam 860, so I could compare them on many things, including weight. How much do New Balance Fresh Foam 860 shoes weigh?
New Balance Fresh Foam 860 shoes weigh 13.28 ounces (0.83 pounds) per shoe for a size 12 men’s shoe.
In this article let’s take a closer look at New Balance Fresh Foam X 860v12 weight and how it compares to other popular New Balance shoes.
New Balance Fresh Foam 860 Weight
My size 12 men’s New Balance Fresh Foam X 860v12 shoes weigh 0.83 pounds per shoe (13.28 ounces).
A women’s size 7 weighs 0.58 pounds per shoe (9.28 ounces).
The New Balance Fresh Foam 860 is a modern lightweight running shoe that offers more stability under the foot than the New Balance 880 and New Balance 1080.

What Makes the New Balance Fresh Foam 860 lightweight?
The Fresh Foam 860 is made with a lightweight, breathable upper which helps keep the weight down:
There are, however, different types of New Balance shoes that are even more breathable. To illustrate how breathable these shoes are, here I am holding them up to the light:
There isn’t any light passing through.
Compare that to the New Balance FuelCell Rebel v2 shoes below, which actually show light passing through the material:
Still, you can expect the Fresh Foam 860 to be lightweight and breathable, but it isn’t quite as breathable as some other types of New Balance running shoes.
This material itself, in combination with the foam midsole, is very lightweight on the foot, and flexible. In the video below, I tried to capture how flexible these shoes are:
The 860 isn’t as flexible as other types of New Balance running shoes because it is built to provide more stability under the foot. If you prefer that “squishy” feeling under your foot, the New Balance FuelCell Rebel, the New Balance 1080, or the New Balance 880 will be your better options.

If you are interested in the New Balance Fresh Foam 860 because you like an ultra-lightweight running style, there are other options you will want to consider. Here’s what you need to know:
- New Balance Rebel v2 – The FuelCell Rebel was the most lightweight New Balance shoe that I tried. The FuelCell foam midsole was extremely flexible, and provided a soft, “squishy” feeling under my foot.
- New Balance 1080v12 – This 1080 shoe was the only other New Balance shoe that I felt like was just as comfortable as the Rebel shoe above. Both have that “squishy” feeling to provide comfort under the foot.
- New Balance 1540v3 – If you prefer stability under the foot, the 1540 provides stability more than any other New Balance running shoe that I tried. It has the New Balance “Rollbar” midsole technology and offers rear foot movement control (what is New Balance Rollbar?).
