What Affects the New Balance 577 Weight?

Because the 577 is made with a leather upper, it is heavier than the New Balance shoes that use suede, nylon, and mesh on the upper. That said, after trying over 30 types of New Balance shoes, this shoe does weigh less than many other types of New Balance leather shoes.

So although this shoe is made with leather, it won’t feel like a brick on your foot. One small detail that helps keep the weight down a little bit is the tongue is made of mesh and not leather.

Shoes Similar to the New Balance 577

If you are interested in the New Balance 577 because you like casual athletic shoes, New Balance actually has several options you should consider. Here’s what you need to know:

  • New Balance Fresh Foam 1080v12 – After tyring over 30 New Balance shoes, I though the 1080 was the the most comfortable. It is a lightweight, modern running shoe that has that “squishy” feeling under the foot (show me how the 1080 responds on a foot). But the 577 will provide more stability and support for walking.
  • New Balance MW840 – The New Balance MW840 was my favorite New Balance leather walking shoe. It is made with a breathable leather and provide comfortable support around the ankle. It also weighs less than the 577. This is how the MW840 responds on a foot.
  • New Balance 990 – The 990 is similar to the 577 in that it falls under the description of “casual athletic shoe”. That said, the 990 is made more for running (and is made in the USA). This is how the 990 responds on a foot.
