Recently I purchased over 30 types of New Balance shoes, including the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080, so I could compare them on many things, including weight. How much do New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 shoes weigh?
New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 shoes weigh 12.32 ounces (0.77 pounds) per shoe for a size 12 men’s shoe.
In this article let’s take a closer look at New Balance Fresh Foam X 1080v12 weight and how it compares to other popular New Balance shoes.
New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 Weight
My size 12 men’s New Balance Fresh Foam X 1080v12 shoes weigh 0.77 pounds per shoe (12.32 ounces).
A women’s size 7 weighs 0.56 pounds per shoe (8.96 ounces).
The New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 is a modern lightweight running shoe that has a thick foam midsole for extra cushioning under the foot.

What Makes the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 lightweight?
The Fresh Foam 1080 is made with a lightweight, breathable upper which helps keep the weight down:
There are, however, different types of New Balance shoes that are even more breathable. To illustrate how breathable these shoes are, here I am holding them up to the light:
There isn’t any light passing through.
Compare that to the New Balance FuelCell Rebel v2 shoes below, which actually show light passing through the material:
Still, you can expect the Fresh Foam 1080 to be lightweight and breathable, but it isn’t quite as breathable as some other types of New Balance running shoes.
And if you look at the comparison weight chart earlier in the article, you will see there are several types of New Balance shoes that weigh less. Why? Well, one thing I found with the 1080 is it does fit a little bit bigger than other types of New Balance shoes, which might help explain the extra weight.
This material itself, in combination with the foam midsole, is very lightweight on the foot, and flexible. In the video below, I tried to capture how flexible these shoes are:
I personally thought the 1080 was the most comfortable New Balance shoe that I tried (the Rebel was also very comfortable). The 1080 has that “squishy” comfort under the foot.

Shoes Similar to the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080
If you are interested in the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 because you like an ultra-lightweight running style, there are other options you will want to consider. Here’s what you need to know:
- New Balance FuelCell Rebel – This Rebel shoe was probably the only other New Balance shoe I felt like was as comfortable as the 1080. The Rebel is the most lightweight shoe that I tried, and is built with breathable material. And it has a “squishy” comfort under the foot.
- New Balance Fresh Foam 880v12 – The 880 was the third most comfortable New Balance running shoe that I tried. It is very “squishy” under the foot, but I just thought the Rebel and 1080 were slightly more comfortable.
