The New Balance 327 is made with a lightweight suede/mesh upper which helps keep the weight down compared to other types of casual shoes:

Shoes Similar to the New Balance 327
If you are interested in the New Balance 327 because you like the retro running style, there are other options you will want to consider. Here’s what you need to know:
- New Balance 720 – The 720 is a low profile casual shoe inspired by retro running shoes. It sits lower than many other types of New Balance shoes, and has a lightweight design.
- New Balance 574 – This is probably New Balance’s most popular shoe. It has a retro running design, but it has a rugged outsole, which makes it a more versatile shoe than other retro runners. To read more, visit my article that compares the New Balance 327 to the New Balance 574.
- New Balance 237 – This New Balance shoe is inspired by 1970’s running shoes and has an overall design that is reasonably similar to the 327, although the 237 has a more traditional appearance (237 vs 327 shoes).
- New Balance XC72 – The XC-72 combines a retro athletic style with a more-modern, aggressive midsole and outsole. The midsole itself sticks out from the back of the shoe to create what New Balance calls an “experimental edge” and a “time-bending design”.
Overall, the New Balance 327 is lightweight compared to casual shoes, but it does weigh a bit more than more modern-style running shoes that New Balance offers, like the Rebel and the Roav.
