Do Adidas Safety Shoes Exist? [Steel Toe or Composite Toe]

At this time, Adidas does not make steel toe or composite toe work shoes. They have, in the past, produced the Adidas Superstars in a metal toe version, but it is important to note that those metal toe Superstars are not ASTM certified and should not be thought of as work safety shoes (more on that later).

If you are interested in Adidas safety shoes because you want an athletic-style safety shoe, the good news is you do have plenty of options made by other well-known companies. I have tried a lot of these shoes and can give you a pretty good idea what to expect out of each of them.

I have separated the sections below by steel toe and composite toe so you can search the type of safety toe you need. Please note that not all safety toes provide the same amount of protection, so please verify that these shoes meet the safety demands of your job prior to purchase.

These are my favorite alternatives to steel toe Adidas safety shoes:

These are my favorite alternatives to composite toe Adidas safety shoes:

I recently tried 24 different low-top safety toe work shoes to evaluate them on weight, comfort, flexibility, and purpose (14 composite toe and 10 steel toe shoes). If you want to do a deep dive on those 24 shoes, I will link to my other resources throughout this article.

After trying those 24 shoes, I found several low-top athletic style work shoes that were very flexible, and very comfortable to wear. These types of shoes are perfect for those who spend long days on their feet and don’t like the weight of a heavy work boot.

For composite toe, I really like the Reebok Sublite Shoes. They are very flexible and feel almost like running shoes on my feet. But what I liked the most about them was the under-foot comfort. They have memory foam insoles with groove pods which help remove stress off the bottom of my foot. Here’s mine:

If you are looking for an alternative for steel toe Adidas shoes, I really like the Reebok All Terrain Steel Toe Shoes. These Reebok All Terrain Shoes have an athletic design that is very comfortable and easy to work in, and also have memory foam insoles for comfort.

The thing I really like about these Reebok All Terrain Shoes is they have a more complex outsole than other types of athletic steel toe work shoes, which allows them to handle outdoor terrain and gravel much better than other work shoes.

Ultimately, there are several nice safety toe athletic shoes that can act as an alternative choice to Adidas safety shoes. In this article not only do I want to discuss some of my favorite alternatives, I also want to discuss in further detail what type of work shoes Adidas does make.

Adidas Safety Shoes Information

Does Adidas Make Steel Toe Shoes?

As we discussed at the top of the article, unfortunately Adidas does not currently make steel toe work shoes. In the past, they have produced a metal-toe version of the Adidas Superstars, but these shoes are not ASTM certified and should not be considered work safety shoes.

If you are interested in these Adidas Superstars in the metal toe version, this is where you can view them at Amazon (paid affiliate link takes you to Amazon.com). Currently I can only find them in the women’s version. I’m not sure if they make the men’s version. Again, these should not be considered work safety shoes.

What Type of Work Shoes Does Adidas Make?

We all know that Adidas makes dependable athletic shoes that are a great option if you are looking for lightweight, comfortable shoes for standing all day. But, unfortunately, some jobs require more than that, and safety toe is needed in many situations.

I actually really like Adidas’ line of Trekker shoes. These shoes are meant to be outdoor hiking shoes, but if you are working outdoors and looking for a versatile shoe that is athletic and comfortable, but also able to handle outdoor terrain, these shoes may be perfect for you. But, no, they are not safety toe shoes.

This is where you can browse the entire collection of Adidas Trekker Shoes (paid affiliate link takes you to Adidas.com). If you must have safety toe shoes, let’s take time to discuss some alternatives options to composite and steel toe Adidas shoes.

Best Alternatives for Steel Toe Adidas Safety Shoes

As we discussed, no, Adidas currently does not steel toe work shoes. If you are interested in steel toe Adidas shoes because you want an athletic steel toe shoe for work, I recently tried 10 low-top athletic steel toe work shoes and can provide you with advice on my favorite options.

In this article I won’t cover all ten of those shoes, but if you want to do a deep dive to learn more, visit my articles linked below:

Earlier in the article I discussed how much I liked the Reebok All Terrain Steel Toe Shoes as a versatile work shoe that could handle dirt and gravel better than most low-top work shoes. Here are some of my other favorite alternative options to steel toe Adidas shoes.

Reebok Work Men’s Zprint Steel Toe Shoe

There are two specific things I like about these Reebok Zprint shoes. First, they are very breathable and great for hot weather work. To give you an idea of how breathable these shoes are, when I hold mine up to the light, I can see through them:

reebok-zprint-breathability

These Reebok Zprint shoes have a very lightweight build. They weigh 1.15 pounds per shoe for a men’s size 12 regular. They use memory foam insoles (Reebok calls this insole “MemoryTech Massage”) that have groove pods which help relieve stress off the bottom of my foot.

In the video below, I tried to capture just how soft these Reebok MemoryTech Massage insoles are in my shoes:

If you are looking for a lightweight, ultra-breathable shoe that has great under-foot comfort, these are great alternative to steel toe Adidas safety shoes. For summer hot weather, this is my favorite steel toe shoes to wear.

Caterpillar Men’s Woodward Steel Toe Shoes

If you prioritize lightweight steel toe shoes, then these Caterpillar Woodward shoes might be your best option. When I recently tried 10 different low-top steel toe shoes for work, these Caterpillar Woodward shoes weighed the least.

My size 12 men’s shoe weighed just 1.09 pounds per shoe. To put this into perspective, I also recently tried 14 different composite toe shoes, and the average weight for those 14 composite toe shoes was 1.25 pounds per shoe, so these Caterpillar Woodward shoes come in significantly lighter than the average composite toe shoe despite being steel toe shoes.

In fact, if I were to rank the weight of this Caterpillar Woodward steel-toe shoe with the weights of those 14 lightweight composite toe shoes that I tried, this shoe would have ranked 6th most lightweight of the entire group. I’m saying all of this to say that these Caterpillar Woodward shoes would even be considered reasonably lightweight if they were compared to composite toe shoes.

To find a steel toe work shoe that is this lightweight is really uncommon, and if you prioritize lightweight comfort, these will be your a nice substitute for steel toe Adidas safety shoes. These Caterpillar Woodward shoes feel like lightweight athletic shoes when I wear them.

Skechers Cankton Steel Toe Shoes

These Skechers Cankton shoes actually ended up being my favorite low top steel toe shoe that I tried. Now, to be fair, they are a bit bulkier than other types of athletic-style shoes, so they might not be the perfect replacement for a steel toe Adidas shoe.

But if you are looking for comfort, I was absolutely shocked at how comfortable these shoes were. These Skechers Cankton Steel Toe Shoes have memory foam insoles, and in my opinion, they are the thickest memory foam insoles on the market.

In the video below, I tried to capture just how soft and forgiving these insoles are:

If you prioritize comfort for standing on the job all day, these were my favorite option. As I mentioned, although these Skechers Cankton shoes do have nice flexibility compared to work boots, they are a bit bulkier than some of the other options on this list.

Click here to buy these Skechers Cankton safety shoes available at Amazon (affiliate link takes you to Amazon.com). In my experience, these Skechers shoes fit true to size. I think these are the best steel toe shoes to wear if you prioritize comfort over all else.

Best Alternatives for Composite Toe Adidas Safety Shoes

Just like with steel toe, Adidas does not currently make composite toe work shoes. If you are interested in composite toe Adidas safety shoes because you want an athletic comp toe shoe for work, I recently tried 14 low-top athletic composite toe work shoes and can provide you with advice on my favorite options.

In this article I won’t cover all 14 of those shoes, but if you want to do a deep dive to learn more, visit my articles linked below:

There are actually a lot of low-top composite toe shoes that I like. Here are some of my favorite alternative options to composite toe Adidas safety shoes.

Reebok Sublite Cushion Comp Toe Work Shoes

I mentioned this at the top of the article, but when I tried 14 low-top composite toe shoes, my conclusion was that these Reebok Sublite shoes were the best option available if you prioritize flexibility and comfort. Like all athletic-style shoes, these shoes are best used for light-duty work on predictable terrain.

What jumped out the most was the comfort. I personally love memory foam insoles, and these Reebok Sublite shoes have unique memory foam insoles that also have groove pods that help relieve stress off the bottom of my foot. In the video below I tried to capture just how comfortable the insoles are:

These Reebok Sublite shoes weigh in at 0.94 pounds per shoe for a size 12 men’s regular, which made them the lightest comp toe shoes (tied) out of all the shoes I weighed. These shoes use microfiber and mesh uppers in combination with foam midsoles to achieve this lightweight design. They also have flex grooves in the outsole to help reduce weight.

The outsole is made of rubber and is slip-resistant. This shoe is best for light-duty work, but it does have a toe overlay for extra abrasion resistance. If you are looking for a substitute for composite toe Adidas safety shoes, I think these are your best option.

Click here to buy these Reebok Sublite Cushion composite toe work shoes available at Amazon (paid affiliate link takes you to Amazon.com). In my experience, these shoes fit true to size. Wide sizing is available for these shoes. This shoe is also available in a women’s version – click here to view the women’s version (paid affiliate link takes you to Amazon.com).

Caterpillar Men’s Streamline Comp Toe Work Shoe

One huge problem is if you are looking for substitutes for Adidas safety shoes, almost all of your options have normal, flat outsoles. For many jobs, that might be fine, but for those of you who spend all day going up and down a ladder, the raised heel can be an added layer of protection against slipping. That’s why I like these Caterpillar Streamline Shoes.

As you can see here, they have a low-profile raised heel:

caterpillar-streamline-composite-toe-raised-heel

Yes, they still have a flexible design that makes them feel like an athletic shoe on your feet. They can be used indoors, but these shoes have a couple extra features (including a raised heel) that many other composite toe shoes don’t. This allows these Caterpillar Streamline shoes to fit a wider variety of jobs.

To be clear, this is still a low-profile raised heel – we aren’t talking about an inch heel like you would find on many work boots. So, no, this shoe won’t provide as much slip protection on a ladder that a work boot might, but for some jobs, a squared heel helps, and these Caterpillar Streamline Shoes provide you a raised-heel option that you don’t find in many work shoes.

Reebok Men’s Fusion Flexweave Athletic Work Shoe

Breathability is important on the job, especially during the summer months. If you are interested in Adidas safety shoes because you want a lightweight work shoe with increased air flow for a hot work environment, I think these Reebok Fusion Flexweave Composite Toe Shoes are clearly the most breathable alternative option I found.

To give you an idea of how breathable this shoe is, when I hold it up to the light you can actually see through the shoe:

breathable-composite-toe-shoes

The lightweight textile uppers have a specially designed “Flexweave” that allows the shoe to be both breathable and lightweight, but still have enough toughness to survive as a work shoe. These shoes had noticeably better airflow than all the other low-top composite toe shoes that I tried.

The main takeaway is these are a great option for those of you doing light-duty work on predictable terrain in the heat. I have not found another low-top composite toe work shoe that is as breathable as these shoes. They also have a moisture-wicking lining that pulls sweat away from your foot.

Wide sizing is available for these shoes. This shoe is also available in a women’s version – click here to view the women’s version (paid affiliate link takes you to Amazon.com).

This is where you can browse the entire selection of footwear available at Adidas (paid affiliate link takes you to Adidas.com). As I mentioned earlier, the Adidas Trekker line of shoes are versatile outdoor shoes, which might make sense for certain jobs, But, no, they are not safety toe shoes.
