Nike Composite Toe Shoes for Work – Does Nike Make Them?

Unfortunately, no, Nike does not currently make composite toe work shoes. But if you are interested in Nike Composite Toe Shoes because you want a lightweight, athletic-style composite toe work shoe, the goods news is you do have quality options made by other well-known companies.

I like the Reebok Sublite Shoes because they have very comfortable memory foam insoles that actually have groove pods that help relieve stress off the bottom of my foot. Here are mine:

I recently tried 14 different low-top composite toe work shoes to evaluate them on weight, comfort, flexibility, and purpose (you can read about all 14 by visiting my article best composite toe shoes). My conclusion was this: the Reebok Sublite shoes were the lightest in weight and also provided the most comfort under the foot, making them perfect for indoor jobs or light-duty work outdoors on smooth terrain.

These Reebok Sublite shoes are very flexible and comfortable and feel like an athletic shoe on my feet. No, Nike doesn’t make composite toe shoes, but some of these athletic-style work shoes may fill the void and provide you with the comfort you desire.

In this article not only do I want to discuss some of my favorite alternatives to Nike composite toe shoes, I also want to discuss in further detail what type of work shoes Nike does make and hopefully help you find an alternative option that fits your needs.

Disclaimer: Please understand that we reviewed the shoes in this article to get an accurate understanding of weight, comfort, and features. We did not test the crush resistance of any of these shoes. Because we do not know your job, we cannot guarantee that these shoes will meet the safety demands of your job. Not all composite toes are the same. Always verify the shoe meets the safety requirements of your job prior to purchase.

Nike Composite Toe Shoes Information

Does Nike Make Composite Toe Shoes?

As we discussed at the top of the article, unfortunately Nike does not currently make composite toe work shoes (or steel toe). Also, Nike does not currently make steel toe work shoes either. But if you are interested in Nike work shoes, there are some options, but they are not composite safety toe shoes.

What Type of Work Boots Does Nike Make?

Nike makes tactical-style work boots that are used often by first responders or people in the armed services. These types of tactical field boots provide premium ankle support for uneven terrain and have a lightweight, responsive design that allows you to respond quickly in an active environment. Again, these tactical boots that Nike makes are not composite toe shoes.

This is what one of the most popular versions of Nike’s tactical field work boots looks like (affiliate link takes you to Amazon.com). Many people like these types of boots due to the ankle support and because the overall design is an athletic style that is still quite durable.

Best Alternatives for Nike Composite Toe Shoes

So Nike composite toe shoes are not currently on the market. What are your other options? These are some of my favorite alternatives and what you need to know about them.

Reebok Sublite Cushion Comp Toe Work Shoes

I mentioned this at the top of the article, but when I tried 14 low-top composite toe shoes, my conclusion was that these Reebok Sublite shoes were the best option available if you prioritize flexibility and comfort. Like all athletic-style shoes, these shoes are best used for light-duty work on predictable terrain.

What jumped out the most was the comfort. I personally love memory foam insoles, and these Reebok Sublite shoes have unique memory foam insoles that also have groove pods that help relieve stress off the bottom of my foot. In the video below I tried to capture just how comfortable the insoles are:

These Reebok Sublite shoes weigh in at 0.94 pounds per shoe for a size 12 men’s regular, which made them the lightest comp toe shoes (tied) out of all the shoes I weighed. These shoes use microfiber and mesh uppers in combination with foam midsoles to achieve this lightweight design. They also have flex grooves in the outsole to help reduce weight.

The outsole is made of rubber and is slip-resistant. This athletic composite toe shoe is best for light-duty work, but it does have a toe overlay for extra abrasion resistance. If you are looking for a substitute for Nike composite toe shoes, I think these are your best option.

Wide sizing is available for these shoes. This shoe is also available in a women’s version – click here to view the women’s version (affiliate link takes you to Amazon.com).

Reebok Astroride Strike Work Composite Toe Shoes

Noticing a trend? This is another Reebok composite toe work shoe. Reebok, in my opinion, makes the best athletic-style work shoes on the market today, and are the best alternative to Nike composite toe shoes.

This Reebok Astroride Strike Work Shoe is actually a new and improved version of their original Astroride shoe. This shoe is designed, among other things, to offer more breathability than the original. This shoe is made using a lightweight, breathable mesh upper with a responsive, flexible foam midsole. It is best used for light-duty work.

These Reebok Astroride Strike Shoes use comfortable memory foam insoles. I like the Reebok Sublite memory foam insoles a little bit more because those insoles also have the groove pods that help relieve stress off my foot. These memory foam insoles in the Reebok Astroride are standard memory foam insoles without those groove pods.

In the video below I tried to capture just how soft these MemoryTech memory foam insoles are:

Out of the 14 low-top composite toe shoes that I tried, these Reebok Astroride shoes were the third lightest in weight (0.99 pounds per size 12 men’s shoe). Overall, even though I like the Reebok Sublite shoes more than this Reebok Astroride Strike Shoe, both of these shoes are very similar and very comfortable, so it might come down to which one you think looks better.

Caterpillar Men’s Streamline Comp Toe Work Shoe

One huge problem is if you are looking for substitutes for Nike composite toe shoes, almost all of your options have normal, flat outsoles. For many jobs, that might be fine, but for those of you who spend all day going up and down a ladder, the raised heel can be an added layer of protection against slipping. That’s why I like these Caterpillar Streamline Shoes.

As you can see here, they have a low-profile raised heel:

Yes, they still have a flexible design that makes them feel like an athletic shoe on your feet (more flexible safety toe shoes). They can be used indoors, but these shoes have a couple extra features (including a raised heel) that many other composite toe shoes don’t. This allows these Caterpillar Streamline shoes to fit a wider variety of jobs.

To be clear, this is still a low-profile raised heel – we aren’t talking about an inch heel like you would find on many work boots. So, no, this shoe won’t provide as much slip protection on a ladder that a work boot might, but for some jobs, a squared heel helps, and these Caterpillar Streamline Shoes provide you a raised-heel option that you don’t find in many work shoes.

Reebok Men’s Fusion Flexweave Athletic Work Shoe

When I tried those 14 different low-top composite toe shoes to evaluate them on weight, comfort, breathability, and purpose, these Reebok Fusion Flexweave Composite Toe Shoes were clearly the most breathable. Yes, most types of lightweight, athletic-style work shoes have a breathable design, but these shoes were clearly more breathable than the rest.

To give you an idea of how breathable this shoe is, when I hold it up to the light you can actually see through the shoe:

breathable-composite-toe-shoes

The lightweight textile uppers have a specially designed “Flexweave” that allows the shoe to be both breathable and lightweight, but still have enough toughness to survive as a work shoe. These shoes had noticeably better airflow than all the other low-top composite toe shoes that I tried.

The main takeaway is these are a great option for those of you doing light-duty work on predictable terrain in the heat. I have not found another low-top composite toe work shoe that is as breathable as these shoes. They also have a moisture-wicking lining that pulls sweat away from your foot.

Timberland PRO Drivetrain Comp Toe Industrial Shoe

What stands out about these Timberland work shoes compared to the other shoes on this list is the amount of padding up around the collar. If you are someone who really prioritizes a comfortable collar, these might be a great choice for you as a substitute toe Nike composite toe shoes.

Overall, pretty standard design here. These shoes have a composite toe with abrasion overlay on both the toe and the heel. There is a gusseted tongue to help keep debris out, but the lightweight design and flat outsole mean that these shoes are best used indoors or for light-duty outdoor work on reliable surfaces.

These shoes weigh 1.03 pounds per shoe, which made them the 5 most lightweight option I tried. These shoes have anti-microbial treatment to help reduce odor.

Weights of These Alternatives to Nike Composite Toe Shoes

As I mentioned earlier, I recently tried 14 of the most popular low-top men’s composite toe work shoes. Seven of those shoes made this list for the best alternatives to Nike Composite Toe Shoes. I have bolded those seven in the table below so you can see where their weights rank in comparison to the other shoes that I tried. The weights are based off one size 12 men’s regular width shoe.

Where to Buy Nike Work Shoes

No, Nike composite toe shoes are not currently offered, but as we discussed earlier in the article, Nike does make other types of work shoes. Click here to view Nike’s selection of boots currently available at Nike.com.

Nike field tactical boots are popular for first responders and people in the armed services, but they also might make sense for you if you work on rugged terrain and are looking for something that is comfortable and responsive.
