Filson has stated numerous times that it is committed to producing premium apparel even if it is finished in a facility outside of their USA facilities, and that they “ensure that every Filson product meets our exacting standards–regardless of where it’s sewn.” Still, if you prefer made in the USA, they have a wide range of options that meet your needs. You can learn more by visiting the Filson FAQ page here.
There are a couple important things to note. First, although we do our best to keep this list updated, please understand that the manufacturing origin of these products is subject to change, so always be sure to confirm the origin on the Filson product page (under the manufacturing tab).
Second, although all the products listed above are made in the USA, not all of them are made using American materials. Some products are sewn and finished here in the USA using imported materials (learn more about this).
In this article, let’s take a closer look at which Filson clothes are made in the USA so you can find an option that fits your specific needs.
Where are Filson Clothes Made?
Some Filson clothes are made in America while other Filson clothes are imported from countries such as Bangladesh, China, and India.
Filson wool products are very popular and the large majority of these Filson wool products are made in the USA (using premium USA Mackinaw wool). However, also sources some of its wool from Europe, New Zealand, and Australia.
In the next sections, let’s break this down by category so you can get a better idea what Filson products are made in the USA.
Where are Filson jackets and coats made?
The manufacturing origin of a Filson jacket will vary. Most all of the Filson wool jackets and coats are made in the USA at their Seattle facility (or their other USA facilities) using premium wool from Oregon’s Pendleton Woolen Mills (tell me more). This includes these jackets and coats:
- Filson Mackinaw Wool Cruiser Jacket
- Filson Seattle Wool Jac Shirt
- Filson Mackinaw Wool Work Jacket
- Filson Mackinaw Wool Packer Coat
Filson’s denim cruiser jacket is also made in the USA. However, the large majority of the rest of Filson’s outerwear collection is imported and not made in the USA. This includes the popular tin cloth jackets which at one point were made in the USA but now are imported.

Where are Filson pants made?
The manufacturing origin of a Filson pants will also vary. Just like the outerwear above, you can expect most premium wool pants to be made in the USA at Filson’s Seattle facility (including the wool cargo pants).
Also, Filson’s jeans (including their popular Rail Splitter jeans) are made in the USA. It is worth noting that although the jeans are sewn and finished in the USA, the materials used for the jeans may be imported. For example, Filson often sources their denim material globally so that they can use the most premium types of denim, including Japanese Selvedge denim.
Outside of the wool pants and jeans, you can expect the large majority of other Filson work pants to be imported (including their Tin Cloth work pants).
Where are Filson shirts made?
Filson’s popular Pioneer t-shirts are made in the USA. This is noteworthy because most other companies are now importing all t-shirts, so if you prefer American-made t-shirts, these will be a great option. Filson offers these Pioneer t-shirts in many different versions (short sleeve, long sleeve, pocketed, graphic design, and plain design).
The Filson Guide Sweater is also made in the USA. However, the large majority of the rest of Filson shirts (both long and short sleeve) are imported. This includes the popular button guide shirts.
Where are Filson hats made?
Although not all Filson hats are American made, a large selection of their hats are made in the USA. This includes, but isn’t limited to, these popular hats:
- Filson Watch Cap Beanie
- Filson Mackinaw Wool Caps
- Filson Duckbill Cap
- Filson Insulated Tin Cloth Cap
- Filson Tin Cloth Wildfowl Hat
Not all Filson hats and caps are made in the USA. Almost all of their snapback hats are imported, and some of their Tin Cloth caps are also imported, so be sure to check the manufacturing tab on the product page.
Where are Filson boots made?
Most Filson boots are imported, however, some of collaborations with other companies are made in the USA. These collaborations are often limited-edition boots, so the availability of the American-made Filson boots will vary over time.
Other Filson Products Made in the USA
Yes, some Filson accessories are imported, but they do offer a large selection of American-made accessories. This includes things such as socks, suspenders, gloves, belts, duffle bags, and jacket liners. Here is a list of some of the most popular Filson accessories that are made in the USA:
- Filson Rugged Twill Duffle Bags
- Filson Original Goatskin Gloves
- Filson Original Deerskin Gloves
- Filson Bridle Leather Belts
- Filson Logger Suspenders
- Filson Everyday Crew Socks
- Filson Wool Jacket Liner
As we have discussed throughout, just be sure to double check the manufacturing tab on the product page. For example, the rugged twill duffle bags are made in the USA, but not all Filson bags are made in the USA, so be sure to confirm you are choosing the right option.
Where are Filson Wool Products made?
Yes, the large majority of Filson’s wool clothes are made in the USA (there are a few exceptions). Filson also sources some of its wool from Europe, New Zealand, and Australia. These American-made options include jackets, pants, hats, bib overalls, and vests.
Filson’s popular Mackinaw wool comes from Oregon’s Pendleton Woolen Mills and is sewn in Filson’s Seattle facility. This premium wool has a tight, durable weave that still remains very breathable. It can absorb as much as 30% of its own weight in moisture without becoming damp and can be bent and flexed 20,000 times without breaking.
One of the most popular options is Filson’s Wool Cruiser Jacket. This Filson jacket was first introduced in 1914 as the C.C. Filson Wool Cruising Shirt, and through feedback and improvements has, over time, developed into it’s current, warmer version.
The Filson Wool Jac Shirt, Wool Vest, Wool Packer Coat, Wool Bib Overalls, and Wool Work Jacket are other popular outerwear options made using this premium Mackinaw wool (and made here in the USA). Filson also makes hats, blankets, and other accessories in their Seattle facility using this Mackinaw Wool.
The main takeaway is you can expect most all of Filson’s wool clothes and accessories to be made in the USA. However, there are a few exceptions, so make sure you double check the manufacturing tab on the Filson product page.
Does Filson Use Imported Materials?
Although we discussed it earlier in the article, it is worth mentioning again that not all Filson Made in USA products will also use American materials. Some of these Filson Made in USA products will source materials from other countries. This means the materials are imported, then the clothing item is sewn and finished in an American facility.
Filson is very good about listing this on their manufacturing tab on the product page (you should see “Made in USA with imported materials”). Often times Filson does this to help ensure they are getting the quality materials needed. For example, they may use premium Japanese Selvedge denim in some of their jeans or premium Scottish wool in some of their wool products.
But if you prefer Made in USA using only USA materials, Filson *does* also offer plenty options that fit that need. Those options will be listed simply as “Made in USA”. Many of Filson’s wool products that are made using premium wool from Oregon’s Pendleton Woolen Mills are both sourced and made in the USA.
