Vans Authentic Sizing: Do Vans Authentics Run Big or Small?

I’ve worn the Vans Authentic shoes and compared their sizing to other popular styles and my conclusion was this: the Vans Authentic sizing is very consistent with other types of Vans shoes, and fit true to size, but have the same snug fit that is common with many styles of Vans shoes.

One thing that is common with Vans sizing, including Vans Authentic Sizing, is these are performance skate shoes that are designed to have a snug fit. If you have wide feet, you will want to make sure you order wide sizing.

To order Vans Authentic shoes in wide sizing, you actually need to go to the Vans “Custom” page, where you can make custom changes which include ordering custom wide fit shoes. Click here to view the custom wides available at Vans.com (affiliate link takes you to Vans.com).

As I mentioned at the top, I personally have found the Vans Authentic shoes to fit true to size with a snug design. They are sized consistently with other popular types of Vans shoes. But I will caution you, they do run smaller than some other types of shoes.

For example, when comparing these Authentic Vans vs Converse Chucks, I found the Converse Chucks to fit about a half size larger. Here is a picture of my size 12 Converse Chucks vs my size 12 Vans Authentics:

As you can see, the Converse Chucks run bigger in size than the Vans Authentics. But before you run off and size those Vans Authentics up a half size, here is a photo of my size 12 Vans Authentics compared to my size 12 Converse Pro Leathers:

As you can see, those two shoes are sized almost exactly the same. In this article I want to take a closer look at Vans Authentic sizing by comparing these Vans Authentic shoes to other types of popular shoes. Hopefully this will help you find the right size for your foot.

Again, Vans now has their own sizing tutorial which matches your foot size to a Vans shoe size, and is probably your best way to help ensure you get the right fit. Click here to view this Vans sizing guide available at Vans.com (affiliate link takes you to Vans.com).

Vans Authentic Sizing

Do Vans Authentics Run Big or Small?

In my experience, Vans Authentic shoes fit true to size. I ordered my normal sizing and did not have any issues. But, like many types of Vans, these Vans Authentic shoes have a narrow fit, so let’s discuss what to do if you have wide feet.

***Verify Your Sizing: I think these Vans Authentic shoes fit true to size with a snug design, but every foot is unique. Vans.com now has its own sizing tutorial which matches your foot size to a Vans shoe size. Are Vans Authentic Wide?

It’s important to note that I personally do not have wide feet. Vans, in general, have a dependable, snug design, especially in their performance skate shoes. Here’s what Vans has to say about fit (source):

“Please note, by design, our high performance skate shoes tend to fit snug, so you may want to select a half size larger. Alternatively, if you have a wide foot, you may purchase one size larger to compensate for the width or check out designing your own pair of wide Customs!”

Again, in my experience, I have ordered my normal sizing for Vans, and have not had a problem with fit, but I do not have wide feet. If you have wide feet, you will likely need wide sizing.

To order wide Vans sizing, you actually need to go to the Vans “Custom” page, where you can make custom changes which include ordering custom wide shoes. Click here to view the custom wides available at Vans.com (affiliate link takes you to Vans.com).

If you plan to add additional insoles to your Vans, this is another reason to consider wide sizing. Again, it is a snug fit, so don’t expect a loose fitting shoe. That said, I think the fit is quite comfortable, and the snug design keeps the shoe from sliding around and rubbing blisters into my feet.

Vans Authentic Sizing Compared to Other Shoes

Vans Authentic vs Vans Sk8-Hi Sizing

I have worn the Vans Sk8-Hi, Vans Slip Ons, Vans Atwood, Vans Old Skool, Vans UltraRange EXO, Vans EVDNT, and the Vans Authentics. And in my opinion, the Vans Authentics were sized basically the exact same as all the other classic Vans skate-style shoes.

For example, here are my size 12 Vans Authentics compared to my size 12 Vans Sk8-Hi shoes:

Vans Authentic vs Converse Pro Leather Sizing

In my experience, the Vans Authentic shoes fit just a tiny bit smaller than the Converse Pro Leather sizing. Overall, it is very close, but I thought the Vans Authentics were little bit tighter. These are narrow shoes so you will need to consider wide sizing if you have wide feet. Here’s a look at mine, both size 12:

Vans Authentic vs Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars Sizing

In my experience, the Converse Chucks sizing (left) run about a half size bigger than the Vans Authentic Lows. These are both narrow shoes so you will need to consider wide sizing if you have wide feet. To read more, visit our article about Vans vs Converse Sizing. Here’s a look at mine, both size 12:

Vans Authentic vs Converse One Star Sizing

I have found the Converse One Stars to be similar to the Converse Chucks in that they run slightly bigger than most Vans sizing, including these Vans Authentics.

The Converse One Stars fit looser than the Vans Authentics, but I would caution you when you look at the photo below, take into account that the Converse One Stars have a more pointed toe and a thick rubber overlay around the toe that makes them look longer than they fit. Here’s a look at mine, both size 12:

Vans Authentic vs Adidas Gazelle Sizing

To me, these Adidas Gazelle shoes are a similar match in sizing compared to the Vans Authentic shoes. If you have worn these Adidas Gazelles in the past, order the same sizing for Vans Authentics. Here’s a look at mine, both size 12:

Vans Authentic Sizing vs Adidas Superstars

I felt like the Adidas Superstars fit just a slight bit bigger than the Vans Authentics. Not so much that I would recommend changing your sizing, but I did feel like the Superstars were just a little bit looser on my foot. Here’s a look at mine, both size 12:

Vans Authentic Sizing vs Adidas Busenitz

The Adidas Busenitz has a similar sizing to the Vans Authentic Shoes. I would recommend ordering the same size for both of these shoes. Here are mine, both size 12:

Vans Authentic Sizing vs Adidas Samba

Just like the Adidas Busenitz above, these Adidas Samba shoes have a very similar sizing to the Vans Authentic Shoes. Here are mine, both size 12:

Vans Authentic Sizing vs Adidas Nizza

Again, another Adidas low-top skate-style shoe that is very similar to Vans sizing. This Adidas Nizza sizing fits very much like the Vans Old Skool shoes:
