Vans Sk8-Hi Sizing and Fit Guide [w/ Size Comparison Pics]

After trying all types of Vans shoes, including the Vans Sk8-Hi shoes, my conclusion about Vans Sk8-Hi sizing is this: Vans Sk8-Hi shoes have a very similar fit compared to other classic Vans shoes, which in my experience is true to size, but with a snug design.

I order my normal sizing, but the fit was a bit tighter than I’m typically used to with other types of casual shoes. Overall, I do not recommend sizing up, but it was close. If you prefer a looser fit, or are between sizes, sizing up a half size may be best. I’d recommend using this Vans size guide tutorial:

Overall, I found all types of Vans to fit pretty much the same. The Vans Sk8-Hi shoes, like many classic Vans performance shoes, have a snug, dependable design. These shoes do run smaller than some types of casual shoes I’ve worn. For example, here are my size 12 Vans Sk8-Hi Shoes compared to my size 12 Converse Chucks:

As you can see, the Converse Chucks are much bigger. But it’s important to remember that Converse Chucks are known for running bigger than other shoes, and there are other types of shoes that match up well with Vans Sk8-Hi sizing. For example, here are my size 12 Nike Cortez shoes compared to those same size 12 Vans Sk8-Hi shoes:

In this article I want to further discuss Vans Sk8 Hi sizing, and also compare these shoes to other types of popular shoes on the market today so you can use comparison pictures to help determine what sizing is best for you.

Vans Sk8-Hi Size Guide

How Do Vans Sk8-Hi Fit?

As you probably know, Vans Sk8-Hi are a performance skate shoe, but also work very well as a casual shoe. I personally wear mine as casual shoes. How Do Vans Sk8-Hi shoes fit?

In my experience, Vans Sk8-Hi shoes fit is true to size. Again, as we discussed earlier, the Vans skate shoes can have a snug fit (and these do), but I order my normal sizing. If you are between sizes, or prefer a loose fit, you may need to size up a half size.

The first thing you need to understand about Vans sizing, is some of Vans’ skate shoes are designed to fit snug for performance. Here’s what Vans has to say about fit (source):

“Please note, by design, our high performance skate shoes tend to fit snug, so you may want to select a half size larger. Alternatively, if you have a wide foot, you may purchase one size larger to compensate for the width or check out designing your own pair of wide Customs!”

It is important to note that I personally do not have wide feet. If you have wide feet, you probably will need to order a custom version of the Sk8-hi shoes to fit your wide feet:

To order wide Vans Sk8-Hi shoes, you actually need to go to the Vans “Custom” page, where you can make custom changes which include ordering custom wide shoes. Click here to view the custom wides available at Vans.com (affiliate link takes you to Vans.com).

If you have wide feet, I could see the Sk8-hi’s feeling cramped near the outside of the big toe (see photo below). Again, for me it isn’t too tight, but I don’t have wide feet.

Overall, I feel like the Vans Sk8-Hi sizing is consistent with the sizing and fit of other types of Vans I have owned. It’s not a perfect illustration, but here is a look at my Vans Slip-On shoes compared to my Vans Sk8-Hi shoes:

To me, the sizing was consistent across all of these styles (true to size). If you have ordered Vans before, I’d recommend ordering the same size for the Sk8-Hi shoes.

The Vans Sk8-Hi shoes are, yes, skate shoes, but also double just fine as casual shoes. I wear mine casually, and I have not had any issues with them fitting too tight. Let’s take a look at how these shoes compare to other popular types of shoes on the market today.

Vans Sk8 Hi Sizing Compared to Other Popular Shoes

Vans Sk8-Hi Sizing vs Converse Chucks

As I discussed earlier, the Converse Chucks fit bigger than most shoes, including these Vans Sk8-Hi shoes. My Converse Chucks fit about a half size bigger than my Vans Sk8-Hi shoes. To read more about the Chucks, visit our article about Converse Chuck Taylor sizing. Here are these shoes compared, both size 12:

Vans Sk8-Hi vs Converse Pro Leather Sizing

In my experience, the Vans Sk8-Hi shoes have a closer fit to the Converse Pro Leathers than they do to the Converse Chucks. Still felt like the Converse fit was just a little looser. These are narrow shoes so you will need to consider wide sizing if you have wide feet. Here are mine (both size 12):

Vans Sk8-Hi Sizing vs Converse One Stars

I have found the Converse One Star sizing to be similar to Converse Chucks in that they run slightly bigger than most Vans sizing. The Converse One Stars fit looser than the Vans Sk8-Hi shoes, but I would caution you when you look at the photo below, take into account that the Converse One Stars have a more pointed toe and a thick rubber overlay around the toe that makes them look longer than they fit. Here are mine (both size 12):

Vans Sk8-Hi vs Adidas Superstars Sizing

Like other classic Vans shoes, I personally found the Vans Sk8-Hi to run a little smaller than the Adidas Superstars. The Adidas Superstars have more padding around the collar and behind the foot, which makes the fit a bit closer than it appears. Still, I felt like the Adidas Superstars were looser. Here are mine, both size 12:

Vans Sk8-Hi Sizing vs Adidas Gazelles

I found the Adidas Gazelle shoe sizing to fit just a little bit longer than the Vans Sk8-Hi, but overall the fit was very similar. Just like the Adidas Superstars above, it’s important to mention that there is more padding in the Adidas Gazelle than the Vans Sk8-Hi, and this makes the overall fit a bit closer than it appears. Here are mine, both size 12:

Vans Sk8-Hi vs Adidas Busenitz Sizing

The Adidas Busenitz has a similar sizing to the Vans Sk8-Hi Shoes. Both of these shoes are performance shoes that have a snug design. Here are mine, both size 12:

Vans Sk8-Hi Sizing vs Adidas Samba

Just like the Adidas Busenitz above, these Adidas Samba shoes have a very similar sizing to the Vans Sk8-Hi Shoes. Here are mine, both size 12:

Vans Sk8-Hi vs Adidas Nizza Sizing

Again, another Adidas low-top skate-style shoe that is very similar to Vans sizing. This Adidas Nizza shoe fits very much like the Vans Sk8-Hi shoes:

Vans Sk8-Hi Sizing vs Nike Cortez

Both of these shoes have what I would describe as a snug fit. The sizing is pretty similar between these two shoes, and if anything, I thought the Vans Sk8-Hi shoes fit a bit looser:

Vans Sk8-Hi vs Nike Blazer Sizing

I found the sizing of these Vans Sk8-Hi shoes to be very similar to the sizing of the Nike Blazer low-tops. Here is a look at mine, both size 12:

Vans Sk8-Hi vs Nike Air Max Sizing

These Nike Air Max shoes definitely fit a little bit looser than the Vans Sk8-Hi Shoes. I have found the Nike Air Max shoes to fit a bit looser than many other types of shoes that I own:
