Timberland Mt. Maddsen Review (How Mine Fit w/ pics)

This is a Timberland Mt. Maddsen review. The Mt. Maddsen boots are popular hiking boots that also function well as ultra-comfortable outdoor work boots. If you are interested in Timberland hiking and outdoor boots, here is what you need to know about some of their most popular styles:

  • Timberland White Ledge Mid Waterproof Ankle Boot – This is probably (in my opinion) Timberland’s most popular hiking boot. Full-grain waterproof leather uppers, seam-sealed waterproof construction. Multiple colors available.
  • Timberland Chocorua Trail Mid Waterproof – Another very popular Timberland hiking boot. These boots fit a bit higher on the ankle than some other boots. Fully-gusseted tongue to help keep debris out of your boot.
  • Timberland Garrison Field Sport Waterpoof Hiking Boot – One thing I really like about the Garrison boots is they carry the leather up through the tongue, which makes the tongue of the shoe stand up very well to moisture. Really nice looking boot.
  • Timberland Flume Waterproof Boot – Seam-sealed, waterproof leather hiking boots that are very good for rocky trails. Shock-absorbing midsole for comfort.
  • Timberland Mt. Maddsen Hiker Boot – These are my personal favorite. Perfect all terrain hiking boots. These are ultra comfortable and I think have better outsole traction and support than other hiking and trail boots. We review these boots in this article.

In this article we are going to focus exclusively on reviewing the Mt. Maddsen boots. Although the Timberland Mt. Maddsen boots are built for hiking, they can also work very well as work boots. As we will discuss below, they are built for those who are on their feet most of the day (whether hiking or working).

How do Timberland Mt. Maddsen Boots Fit?

The Timberland Mt. Maddsen boots fit true to size. Ordering your normal sizing should work just fine for these boots.

It is also important to remember that Timberland does offer wide sizing for those of you that have wide feet. One reason I love the Mt. Maddsen boots is for their comfort. Let’s discuss that in more detail next.

Comfort

As we discussed earlier, these boots are hiking boots that can also function perfectly as easy-to-wear work boots. Timberland designed these boots for those who spend long days on their feet.

And in my opinion that is the main takeaway from these Mt. Maddsen boots: think comfort. These boots will be best for you if you prioritize comfort over everything else.

The most specific areas of comfort for me when I wear these boots are on the toe pad and the heel. The tongue is also very comfortable against the top of the foot.

The Mt. Maddsen boots are made with Timberland’s anti-fatigue comfort technology. The EVA midsole offers shock absorption and lightweight cushioning that feels very nice against my heel and toe pad. (EVA is short for ethylene vinyl acetate. It is a rubber-like plastic that has heat and cold resistance, and holds up well over the long haul).

Features

  • Full-grain waterproof leather uppers
  • BSFP (Brake, Support, Flex, and Propel) Traction
  • Waterproof membrane to help keep feet dry
  • Gusseted tongue keeps out debris
  • Anti-fatigue comfort technology
  • Internal TPU shank
  • Compression-molded EVA midsole provides lightweight cushioning and shock absorption
  • Eco-friendly

These boots have dependable, comfortable BSFP traction (Brake, Support, Flex, and Propel). The lugs hold up well over time and provide reliable support for hiking.

If you are interested in using the Mt. Maddsen boots for construction work, or other types of work, the traction should be dependable. Of course you will want to be mindful of the fact that these are obviously soft-toe shoes that won’t be safe for all work environments. These shoes are great as hiking, camping, and fishing boots, and for general work around the house and yard.

What’s One Thing I Would Change About This Boot?

If I had to change one thing about this boot, I would probably change the tongue material. Again, this comes down to comfort vs design. The tongue is a fabric material that is VERY comfortable against the top of the foot. But because it is fabric, it can get wet.

Yes, the Mt. Maddsen has waterproof leather, but the tongue itself is susceptible to moisture. Again, this is a trade-off because the tongue makes these boots extremely comfortable to wear (and keeps the weight down). But if you would prefer a boot where the tongue is built to repel water, I would recommend the Timberland Garrison hiking boots. The Garrison boots have the leather that carries up through the tongue.

Timberland Mt. Maddsen Review Summary

The Mt. Maddsen boots stand out due to their comfort. They are very comfortable against the top of the feet. The most specific areas of comfort for me when I wear these boots are on the toe pad and the heel.

They are made with full-grain waterproof leather uppers. The tongues are fully-gusseted to help keep debris from getting down inside the shoe.

One thing you will want to consider in the fabric material of the tongue. Yes, it is incredibly soft and comfortable against the top of the foot, but because it is not leather, it is susceptible to some moister. If you prefer a leather tongue, I recommend the Timberland Garrison hiking boots.
