Yes, basic insulated coveralls are nice, but sometimes the weather is so extreme, it really helps to have insulated coveralls with a hood. Using hooded insulated coveralls gives you extra protection up around the face and neck that can be crucial in helping you get through those brutally cold winter work environments.

One of my other favorite options is the Carhartt Yukon Extremes Insulated Coveralls. They don’t come with an attached hood, but they have snaps under the collar so you can also purchase and add the insulated hood if you so wish.
Not only are hooded insulated coveralls popular for certain jobs, but they also are used for a wide variety of outdoor recreation. It can vary by brand, but often times the insulated coveralls meant for skiing use a softer, more flexible outer shell fabric. For some jobs, that flexibility may be helpful.
Let’s take a closer look at these hooded insulated coveralls so you can decide which one might make the most sense for you. If you would also like to consider bib overalls, visit our article about the best winter overalls.

RefrigiWear Iron-Tuff Insulated Coveralls with Hood
Refrigiwear opened its doors in 1954, and since day one they’ve been dedicated to making gear tough enough to handle extreme cold conditions. At first, the name may be a fit confusing, and although Refrigiwear does make gear for freezer work, they also make clothes for outdoor winter work environments.
The RefrigiWear Iron-Tuff Insulated Coveralls are a great place to start when looking for ultra warm hooded winter coveralls. Here’s what they look like:

Carhartt Men’s Arctic Quilt Lined Yukon Coverall X06
Many of you probably already wear some Carhartt products, and so perhaps you feel comfortable with their brand. These coveralls are very warm, and part of their Extremes series, the only drawback is you have to buy the hood separately.
Here’s what these coveralls look like:

- Shell Material – The Yukon Coverall is constructed of heavyweight, water-repellent, 1000-denier Cordura® nylon. It is zip-front and vented under the arms for breathability.
- Insulation – This product is lined with quilted nylon and arctic-weight polyester insulation. This is Carhartt’s warmest insulation.
- Hood – These coveralls do not come with a built-in hood. There are under-collar snaps for a hood to be purchased separately and attached to the coveralls.
- Zippered Legs – The legs of this coverall are zippered from ankles to waist and, making it easy to put on and take off without having to remove your boots. There are also snap storm flaps for extra protection from the weather. The knees are double-layered with openings for adding knee pads.
- Pockets – Zippered chest and slanted hand pockets allow for easy access and plenty of storage.
Again, the hood will need to purchased seperately for these coveralls. The Carhartt Extremes Yukon series is a line of clothing dedicated for extreme winter work environments.
These coveralls use Carhartt’s toughest outer shell (nylon) and combine it with Carhartt’s warmest insulation (arctic insulation). These coveralls are built for harsh winter environments.
Above is a close up look at the nylon outer shell. Although the nylon shell is ultra-durable, in my experience it does take some time to break in. It will feel a bit stiff off the rack.

Filson C.C.F. Insulated Coveralls
Filson is a clothing company based in Seattle WA that has a deep-rooted tradition in providing heavy-duty dependable workwear. Their founder, C.C. Filson, opened shop in 1897 and, at that time, specialized in making ultra-tough, ultra-dependable clothing for stampeders heading north for the Klondike Gold Rush.
The Stampeders who marched north towards the Klondike region put their lives at risk in search of gold. The conditions in the Yukon were brutal. Winters were dark and devastatingly long.
The stampeders faced blinding snow storms, avalanches, hypothermia, towering terrain, malnutrition, disease, and all the other perils of wilderness. It is estimated that out of the 100,000 people who set out to stampede for gold, only 30,000 actually made it to the Klondike region.
Making clothes that could hold up in the sub-freezing wilderness meant C.C. Filson couldn’t cut corners, and had to emphasize toughness and dependability. And although the Klondike Gold Rush has long since passed, that tradition of toughness and dependability has carried over to Filson’s current collection of workwear.
Here’s what you need to know about the Filson C.C.F. Insulated Duck Coveralls:
- Shell Material – Made of 12-ounce, 100% cotton canvas duck, this rugged coverall will stand the test of time. The triple-stitched shoulder seams ensure it can handle the rough and tumble of your everyday life. There is a neck-to-fly zipper closure for easy donning.
- Insulation – These coveralls have a quilted polyester insulation.
- Hood – These coveralls do not come with an attached hood, but a hood can be attached with snap buttons.
- Zippered Legs – These are insulated coveralls with leg zippers. Makes it easy to pull on over boots.
- Pockets – There are chest-stow and flap pockets for storage.

Rothco is a popular brand of tactical and outdoor clothing, and they do have a popular style of hooded insulated coveralls. Here’s what these ski suit coveralls look like:
This is the current price of these Rothco hooded insulated coveralls available at Amazon (affiliate link takes you to Amazon.com). Here’s what you need to know about these coveralls:

There is an attached elastic belt as well as wrist cuffs that ensure a perfect fit that keeps the frigid air out. A two-way front zipper with single-snap closure provides extra protection from the weather.
- Insulation – Lined with Holofil 808 insulation for maximum warmth on the coldest days.

Although these are ski coveralls, sometimes these types of suits can be helpful because they tend to be a bit more flexible than work coveralls. Depending on your job, that flexibility may help.
