The 5 Best Jeans to Pair with Work Boots (2021 Review)

If you wear work boots regularly, you know all too well that only certain types of jeans fit with work boots. Most types of work boots tend to be bulky, with padded upper collars that won’t pair easily with small leg openings in jeans.

The 527 jeans have been my go-to work pants for several years. They are both comfortable and reliable. I personally prefer to stick to Levi as much as possible when I buy jeans (although there are several trustworthy brands for work jeans).

The 527 jeans are, in my opinion, the best Levi jeans for work boots. This is where you can check out the price and available colors of the Levi 527 boot but jeans at Amazon (affiliate link takes you to Amazon.com).

These jeans are a slim boot cut, meaning they will be slim cut above the knee, and then widen to a boot cut leg opening. For bigger guys with large thighs, some of the relaxed options below might be a better option.

Although these 527 jeans have a slim fit in the thighs, because they are made with stretch material, they are very comfortable to move around and work in. Here is a look at my 527 jeans:

Again, in my opinion, these are the best Levi jeans for work boots. Sticking with Levi jeans is never a bad idea since they are a trustworthy brand that will last and hold up well at work sites. My 527 jeans have minimal shrinkage. I get about a full year out of most of my pairs before they start to wear out.

These jeans have a standard zip fly with a button closure. They have an 18.25″ leg opening which pairs easily with work boots.

Although the 517 jeans aren’t listed as a slim boot cut, these jeans are still a fitted, slimmer cut (these won’t be loose, baggy jeans). There isn’t much of a difference when you compare these jeans to the 527 Levi jeans we just discussed (if you want to do a deep dive visit our article Levi 517 vs 527).

In my experience, the 517 jeans actually fit tighter up around the crotch and seat area than the 527 jeans do. My 527 jeans have a larger combined front/back rise than my 517 jeans do. One thing to consider is the 517 jeans are 100% cotton, and the 527 jeans are generally a fabric blend.

Overall, the takeaway is these 517 jeans are very similar to the 527 jeans, only they sit a bit higher on the waist, and fit a little tighter in the seat. And as we just mentioned, they are also made with 100% cotton.

These 517 jeans have a standard boot cut leg opening that will pair easily with all work boots. The leg opening measures at 18.25 inches (same leg opening size as the 527 jeans). They come with the standard zip fly and button closure.

Wrangler Relaxed Fit Boot Cut Jeans

The Levi options above are both slim style jeans that will be somewhat fitted around the thighs. These Wrangler Relaxed Fit Boot Cut Jeans will give you plenty of breathing room in the seat and thighs, and are perfect for those guys who prefer space in their jeans.

These are versatile jeans that look good both at work and on the weekend. This is where you can check out the price and available colors of these Wrangler boot but jeans at Amazon (affiliate link takes you to Amazon.com).

Because these are relaxed jeans, and the Levi jeans are more of a standard, slim cut, choosing between the two likely just comes down to personal preference on fit. Again, I wear the Levi 527 jeans, and although they fit slim, the stretch material makes them easy to bend and work in.

But these Wrangler jeans will definitely provide much more space for freedom of movement, if that is something you are overly concerned about. These jeans also have a slightly bigger leg opening of 18.5 inches, which makes them very easy to pair with work boots. These jeans are made with 100% cotton and have a standard zip fly with button closure.

Carhartt Relaxed Straight Leg Jean

These jeans make the list due to the reliability of the Carhartt brand. For those of you who like to rely on Carhartt for dependable workwear, these Carhartt relaxed straight-leg jean can be paired with work boots.

Like the Wrangler jeans we covered above, these Carhartt jeans are relaxed through the seat and thigh to give your space for freedom of movement. Carhartt does not make a boot cut jean. Instead, they make the leg opening of their straight-leg jeans big enough to pair with work boots.

These jeans have a 17-inch leg opening (based on a 34 waist). Even though that leg opening is smaller than some of the previous options, these jeans will work with most all types of boots. Carhartt describes the leg opening in this way “straight leg opening leaves plenty of room to fit over your boot.”

These Signature by Levi Strauss & Co. Gold Label Bootcut Jeans are a sort of sister brand to Levi (both owned by Levi Strauss).

These jeans have an easy fit through the seat and thigh that gives you breathing room. Most styles are made with stretch material for comfort. As I said earlier in the article, I prefer to wear stretch work jeans that make it easier to bend and crouch on the job.
