This is a Levi’s 559 Jeans review. I will use photos of the 559 jeans that I own. If you are shopping for Levi jeans that have a relaxed fit and don’t hug your legs, you actually have a lot of options. Here’s what you need to know about those options:
- Levi’s 514 Men’s Jeans – These jeans have a classic straight cut that looks clean and professional, but won’t hug your legs tight in any area. In my experience, I felt like the 514 jeans fit a bit looser than the 559 jeans.
- Levi’s 505 Men’s Jeans – The 505 jeans are straight fit jeans that have a little extra room in the seat and thigh areas. These are actually quite similar in fit to the 559 jeans. The 505 jeans do have a slightly smaller leg opening. Overall, expect a roomy fit that does not look sloppy. These are great weekend jeans in my opinion.
- Levi’s 569 Men’s Jeans – These jeans are a loose-straight fit (looser than the 559 jeans). The 569 jeans are one of the loosest, most relaxed jeans you can buy. These jeans are baggy through the thighs, and provide a lot of room for freedom of movement.
- Levi’s 559 Men’s Jeans – The 559 jeans have a relaxed fit above the knee, and a straight fit below the knee. This makes these jeans both comfortable and professional. We review these jeans in this article.
In this article we will focus specifically on Levi’s 559 jeans. The 559 jeans have a relaxed fit that will not hug up against your legs in any area. This review will focus mainly on these subjects:

How Do Levi’s 559 Jeans Fit?
The 559 jeans are relaxed-straight fit jeans. This means they will have a relaxed fit in the seat and thighs, and a straight fit below the knee. This makes these jeans comfortable, with plenty of room built in, but a straight cut below the knee that looks clean and professional. These jeans are for guys who do not like jeans that hug near the leg.
For many guys, skinny/slim jeans are uncomfortable. You might like relaxed-fit jeans, but also don’t want your jeans to look too relaxed and sloppy. The 559 jeans are a sort of hybrid jean that allows you to have that relaxed feeling above the knee (where it matters most), but then has a straight cut below the knee so that the leg openings don’t look huge and baggy.

What Size to Order?
In my experience, the 559 jeans have fit true-to-size, meaning both the waist size and the length fit as expected. I ordered my normal sizing. Remember, these 559 jeans have extra space built into the seat and thigh, so expect a looser fit.
559 Leg Opening
The 559 have a straight fit below the knee that finishes with a 18″ leg opening. This leg opening is wide enough to be paired with most all types of footwear. If you will be wearing work boots, perhaps you will want a boot cut leg opening (Levi 517 or 527).
Here is a look at how the 559 leg opening will fit with sneakers and boots:

Do Levi’s 559 jeans shrink?
The material of the 559 jeans may vary by color. The jeans I own were not 100% cotton. They had a bit of stretch material to make the jeans flexible. I say that to say, the amount of shrinkage you encounter will likely be affected by the material of your particular pair of jeans.
In general, expect your 559 jeans to shrink a little bit, but in my opinion, it is not enough to affect what size you order. The shrinking I have experienced is very normal in comparison to other clothes and other jeans.
Will Levi’s 559 jeans last?
The Levi brand is a trustworthy brand that gives you some peace of mind that your jeans will hold up well. You certainly don’t want jeans that wear out near the pockets within 3 months.
In my experience, all of my Levi jeans have held up well, including the 559 jeans. Taking proper care of them is, of course, important. I also have had no issues with my zipper or button breaking or popping loose. If you have had problems in the past with zippers, then perhaps the 501 jeans will work for you. The 501 Levi’s have a button fly instead of the zipper fly (which Levi’s jeans have a button fly).
Levi’s 559 Review Summary
The Levi’s 559 jeans have a relaxed-straight fit that won’t hug your legs. This means you can expect these jeans to be relaxed in the seat and thigh area, but have a straight finish that keeps these jeans from being too baggy. These jeans combine a straight cut with a relaxed fit to make them both professional and comfortable.
The 559 jeans have an 18″ leg opening which makes them easy to pair with most all types of footwear. These jeans have a standard zip fly with button closure. In my experience these jeans have run true-to-size.
Levi 559 Alternatives
If you are a guy who prefers a relaxed fit (and don’t like skinny/slim jeans), then Levi has several options that might work for you. Here are some other options to consider besides the 559 jeans:
- Levi’s 569 Men’s Jeans – These jeans are a loose-straight fit, and will fit looser than the 559 jeans. The 569 jeans are one of the loosest, most relaxed jeans you can buy. These jeans are baggy through the thighs, and provide a lot of room for freedom of movement. Your legs can breathe in these jeans.
- Levi’s 514 Men’s Jeans – These jeans have a classic straight cut that looks clean and professional, but won’t hug your legs tight in any area. This is one of Levi’s most popular styles, and I would recommend you check them out if you are interested in the 559 jeans.
