Levis 514 Jeans Review (How Mine Fit w/ Photos)

This is a Levi’s 514 Straight-Fit Jeans review. I will use photos of the 514 jeans that I own. If you are shopping for straight Levi jeans, you actually have a lot of options. Here’s what you need to know about those options:

  • Levi’s 505 Men’s Jeans – The 505 jeans are very similar to the 514 jeans. If you are considering the 514 jeans, you will also want to consider the 505 jeans. These are straight fit jeans. They fit just a bit tighter in the thighs than the 514 jeans (but they are not slim fit).
  • Levi’s 569 Men’s Jeans – These jeans are a loose-straight fit. This means they will be looser in the thighs than the 514 jeans. These are for guys who want plenty of room in the thighs for their legs to breathe.
  • Levi’s 541 Men’s Jeans – The 541 jeans are comparable to the 514 jeans in that both jeans have a fit that doesn’t hug your legs in any way, but still can show a bit of shape so they don’t look too baggy.
  • Levis 501 Original Jeans – This is one of Levi’s most iconic styles. The 501 jeans have a regular cut through the thigh, and a straight cut below the knee. These jeans are a bit tighter than the 514 jeans, but these jeans are not slim jeans.
  • Levi’s 513 Men’s Jeans – These are slim-straight jeans that will be much slimmer through the thighs than the 514 jeans. Slim fit above the knee, straight fit below the knee.
  • Levi’s 514 Men’s Jeans – These jeans have a classic straight cut that isn’t too baggy or too tight. These jeans will not hug your legs. We review these jeans in this article.

Compare To…

  • Calvin Klein Men’s Straight Fit Jeans – These CK jeans will have a very similar fit to the 514 jeans. Classic straight fit jeans that don’t fit too tight or too baggy. These give you a professional look without being uncomfortably tight.

In this article we will focus specifically on Levi’s 514 jeans. The 514 jeans are the straight fit that show a bit of shape, but do not hug your legs. This review will focus mainly on these subjects:

How Do Levi’s 514 Jeans Fit?

The 514 jeans are straight fit jeans that will show a bit of shape, but they will not hug against your legs. I like to say these jeans have a sort of in-between fit – they don’t hug your legs, but they also aren’t obnoxiously loose and baggy. They show some shape without being slim or skinny.

If you don’t like skinny/slim jeans, then these 514 jeans might be a great option for you. These jeans can show some figure without making you feel uncomfortable.

What Size to Order?

In my experience, these jeans have fit true-to-size, meaning both the waist size and the length fit as expected. I ordered my normal sizing.

514 Leg Opening

The 514 jeans have a straight leg with a 16.5″ leg opening. This leg opening is large enough to be paired with most all kinds of shoes. Here is a look at how the leg opening will fit with sneakers and boots:

Do Levi’s 514 jeans shrink?

The material of the Levi’s 514 jeans varies depending on what color you buy. Many of the colors have material made of cotton and elastane, to add some stretch, but there are some colors that are 100% cotton. Because of this, the shrinking may vary slightly depending on what color you choose.

In my experience, you can expect the 514 jeans to shrink, but the overall amount of shrinkage is quite minimal, and did not affect fit much at all. My jeans tightened up a slight bit, but it was very minimal and I would not recommend factoring this into your sizing decisions.

Do Levi’s 514 jeans last?

My 514 jeans have held up well over time. I’m always concerned about jeans wearing in the crotch or the back pocket areas, but in my experience with the 514 jeans, this has not been a problem.

It is important to again mention that the material in these jeans will differ depending on the color you choose. This may affect the longevity of the jeans. I personally have not had any issues with the 514 jeans I have owned, but since the material differs, it is quite possible some colors may last longer than others.

I also have had no issues with my zipper or button breaking or popping loose. They have held up well.

Levi’s 514 Review Summary

levis-514-jeans

The Levi’s 514 straight jeans fit are (in my opinion) an in-between fit that don’t hug your legs, but still show a bit of shape. These jeans are perfect for guys who don’t like skinny/slim jeans, but are looking for a pair of jeans that still look professional and show a bit of shape.

The leg opening is 16.5 inches, which means these jeans should pair well with most types of shoes. Shrinking can occur, but in my experience it has been minimal.

In my experience these jeans have run true-to-size. They are constructed with traditional styling. They have a zip fly and a button closure.

There are other options to consider if you are interested in the 514 jeans. As I mentioned previously, Levi’s makes several different types of straight leg jeans that are similar to the 514 jeans. Here’s what you need to know:
