What is the difference between the Levi’s 513 vs 514?
The difference between the Levi’s 513 and 514 jeans is the 513 jeans have a slim-straight cut with a 15.75″ leg opening and the 514 jeans have a traditional straight cut with a 16.5″ leg opening. You can expect the 513 jeans to fit tighter through the hips and thighs than the 514 jeans.

Levi’s 513 vs 514 Fit
As we discussed above, there is a significant difference in fit between the 513 and 514 jeans. The 513 is a slim-straight cut and the 514 jeans are a traditional straight cut.
The 513 jeans are slim through the hips and thighs, then have a straight cut below the knee. The 513 jeans act as a sort of hybrid between slim jeans and straight jeans.
The 513 jeans are popular for men who want something that is fitted, but don’t want the jeans to fit so tight that they look like skinny jeans. The 513 jeans also have a wider leg opening than most traditional slim jeans, so the 513 jeans work well for those who like a fitted cut in the thighs, but don’t want a slim leg opening (more on the leg opening later).
The 514 jeans are a traditional straight cut from the hip through the ankle. Although these jeans fit looser than the 513 jeans, don’t expect baggy, sloppy jeans. They still show a bit of shape, but do so in a way that does not hug your leg. The 514 jeans are not slim/skinny jeans. They are more of a traditional fit.
The 514 jeans are perfect for those wanting a fit that doesn’t hug their legs, but also don’t want the fit to be so loose that it looks sloppy. The 514 jeans still show some figure when you wear them, but don’t fit tight against your legs in any area.

It is also important to note that even though the 513 jeans widen to a straight cut below the knee, they are still slimmer below the knee than the 514 jeans. Below is a photo of my 513 jeans sitting on top of my 514 jeans. As you can see, the 513 jeans are much slimmer than the 514 jeans through the hips and thighs:
They also are slimmer below the knee:
What size to order?
In my experience, both the 513 and 514 jeans have a true-to-size fit, meaning the waist and the length was what I expected. Just remember that the 513 jeans have a slim fit through the hips and thighs, so if you are naturally in-between sizes, I would size up on the 513 jeans.

Leg Opening
The leg opening in the 513 vs the 514 jeans is one of the most significant differences in these jeans. Although both of these jeans have a straight cut below the knee, the leg openings are not the same size.
The 513 jeans have a 15.75″ leg opening and the 514 jeans have a 16.5″ leg opening. This can impact which style you prefer.
If you are planning to pair your jeans with bigger work boots, then obviously the larger leg opening on the 514 jeans will help. Below is a look at how you can expect these jeans to fit near the ankle:
- Levi’s 513 Jeans – 15.75″ leg opening:
- Levi’s 514 Jeans – 16.5″ leg opening:
