For women, you can find both stretch corduroy pants and stretch corduroy leggings. If you prefer more of a regular fit, the LL Bean Women’s Casco Corduroy Pants are fitted through the hips, but finish with a straight fit below the knee.

Most men’s stretch fit corduroy pants have a casual design. The Haggar Men’s Classic Fit Corduroys are the exception because they use a narrow-wale design which gives them a dressier look.

In this article let’s take a closer look at the best stretch cords for both men and women. Let’s also discuss several things to consider when buying these types of corduroy pants.

Best Women’s Stretch Corduroy Pants

Mountain Khakis Women’s Canyon Stretch Cords

These Mountain Khakis Women’s corduroy pants are made with a spandex fabric blend to provide stretch and comfort. They have a slim fit that will show shape, but won’t hug skin tight against the legs below the knee.

These Mountain Khakis women’s pants are 14-wale cords. They feature standard front and back pockets, and have a traditional zipper fly with button closure. These are a great option if you are shopping for casual cords to wear on the weekend.

L.L. Bean Women’s Stretch Casco Corduroy Pants

These women’s L.L. Bean corduroy pants are made to fit tight through the hips and thighs, but finish with a straight fit below the knee. Patagonia Women’s Organic Cotton Stretch Everyday Cords

These Patagonia women’s flex corduroy pants are a little bit different than the two women’s cords we discussed above. These pants are more fitted below the knee and although they have a slim fit through the hips, these pants hug tighter against the leg than many other styles.

They have a classic five pocket design and are made with a cotton/spandex blend to provide flexibility. These are 16-wale cords and they have a traditional zipper fly with button closure.

L.L. Bean Men’s Stretch Natural Fit Corduroy Pants

These men’s L.L. Bean 11-wale corduroy pants are made with a cotton/spandex fabric blend to provide the comfortable stretch you desire. These pants have a sort of regular fit (I believe L.L. Bean calls this a “natural fit”) that won’t fit too loose or too tight.

These are casual pants that can be worn for a wide variety of occasions. They also have hidden elastic panels on the waistband to provide a comfortable fit around the waist. They have standard front and back pockets (the back pockets are button-through pockets).

Bean pants we discussed above, these Haggar men’s stretch corduroy pants not only have a cotton/spandex stretch fabric blend, they also have a hidden expandable waistband that helps provide additional comfort and flexibility. The expandable waistband can expand up to three inches if needed.

These 21-wale corduroy pants have a narrow-wale design which gives them a dressier look. If you are shopping for a pair of office corduroy pants, these might be your best option. They have standard front and back pockets and feature a classic fit that won’t fit too tight.

4 Things to Consider When Buying Stretch Corduroy Pants

Wale in Stretch Cords

A “wale” is the term used for each individual row of cords on a pair of corduroy pants. This is important because corduroy pants will often be described using their wale amount.

corduroy-wale

For example, the Haggar men’s pants on our list are 21-wale cords. What this means is there are 21 wales in a single inch of the material used on the pants. The higher the number, the thinner the corduroy rows will be.

For example, a standard wale amount is usually around 11. That means a 21-wale will be thinner rows of corduroy. If you prefer thicker corduroy rows, then you will want a smaller wale number.

Some higher wale amounts make the corduroy rows so thin that it’s hard to even notice from a distance that the material is corduroy. Sometimes this type of material is referred to as a micro-cord material.

Thicker wales can sometimes impact warmth, but in general, this mostly just comes down to personal preference on how you like your corduroy pants to look. If you prefer a thicker cord row, then choose a smaller wale amount for your stretch cords.

Warmth

Cotton corduroy is a warm material, and can be a nice winter option (is corduroy good for winter?). But it won’t keep you warm in the extreme cold. For brutal temperatures, insulated pants will be the better option.

Other Corduroy Clothing to Consider

If you love the way corduroy feels and fits, then perhaps some of our other corduroy resources would interest you. I have linked our other corduroy article below in case you want to view other options:

Amount of Stretch

Stretch corduroy pants will use spandex (or Elastane) to blend with the cotton corduroy fabric to provide stretch. The amount of spandex (or Elastane) used will vary brand to brand.

If you want to preserve the traditional corduroy feel, but have a small bit of stretch, sticking with a 1% spandex blend will be best. If you want your pants to be very flexible, then finding a spandex blend in the 4-5% range may be best.

Also, some stretch cords may use an elastic waist (or partial elastic waist) to provide even more flexibility and comfort. For example, the Haggar men’s stretch corduroy pants on our list use an expandable waistband.
